Puff adder flicking tongue

On his trip back from the hospital to collect his newly born daughter, a colleague of mine stepped over this puff adder twice in his garage in the dark before he noticed the hiss. He came running to my house to ask me to catch it. I did with extreme caution. The next morning, I improvised a safe photo studio in my back garden where I took this shot. I went as close as I dared to this highly venomous snake. The snake was just over a metre long and weighed about 3.5 kg. I released the snake in Lake Nakuru National Park with the permission of The Kenya Wildlife Service.
