I had always wanted to climb Chinguni Hills, in the South of Liwonde National Park, Malawi. I had the opportunity in 2007, when I left Mvuu camp very early in the morning.
Climbing was no easy task as there were no set paths and we had to climb through the bush. Jim, our guide, was wonderful, and my friend, Peter Todd managed to see his first porcupine despite the fact that he had lived in Africa and been on safari for a lot longer than I had.
The views from the top were as good as I hoped: you could see the floodplain and how big it really was, the Shire river in the distance, and the whole of the Park. I used my D200 Nikon camera with the 18mm lens handheld to take the picture.
