Purple Crested Lourie
I was posted in a hide in a tree, in the middle of the rhino sanctuary, in Liwonde National Park, Malawi, when I took this picture. I was expecting to see large mammals coming to drink in the artificial waterhole but apart from a baboon and a couple of squirrels, nothing came.
Luckyly, the birds were present and although I had seen it before, I had never managed to take a picture of the Purple Crested Lourie.
I used my 500mm lens mounted on a tripod to get this shot.
